Some people buy new iPhones that are relatively cheap compared to the price in Apple stores around the world. If this happened to you, there's a way to check if your iPhone is new or a refurbished one.
The information on the box will tell you everything you need to know.
If you purchased a new iPhone and you have not yet opened it, you can look at the back of the case, specifically at the bottom. You will see a complete set of information about your phone, including the IMEI number. What you need to look for is the model number that should be written on the right.
If you get your iPhone without the box, you can go to your iPhone (settings), then to (General), and then to (About). Look for Model Model Number from there.
